A federal judge has denied a motion to dismiss a race discrimination claim filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against Rosebud Restaurants. In its complaint, the EEOC charged that the Chicago-area Italian restaurant chain refused to hire African-Americans because of their race.

Lakeland Eye Clinic, a Lakeland, Fla.-based organization of health care professionals, will pay $150,000 to settle one of the first two lawsuits ever filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleging sex discrimination against a transgender individual.
